US CHESS CHAMPIONSHIP

TOURNAMENTS 2019

This event is open only to exempted or qualified players
Saturday 21st September to Sunday 6th October – 9 rounds
Rounds 1-8 (Saturday 21st September – Saturday 5th October) begin each day at 2.30pm;
Round 9 (Sunday 6th October) begins at 10.00am
40 moves in 90 minutes, followed by 30 minutes to finish the game, with an increment of 30 seconds per move from move one

US JUNIOR CHAMPIONSHIPS

UNDER 16 (born 2003 or later) Sunday 22nd September – Saturday 5th October 9.15am
UNDER 14 (born 2005 or later) Sunday 22nd September – Saturday 5th October 9.15am
UNDER 12 (born 2007 or later) Sunday 22nd September – Saturday 5th October 9.15am
UNDER 10 (born 2009 or later) Sunday 22nd September – Saturday 5th October 9.15am

7 rounds – all moves in 90 minutes with 30 seconds per move added from move one

UNDER 11 (born 2008 or later)
Friday 20th September AND Saturday 21st September – 9.15am, 1.00pm and 4.45pm
6 rounds – all moves in 75 minutes with 10 seconds per move added from move one

UNDER 9 (born 2010 or later)
Friday 20th September – 12.30pm, 3.00pm and 5.30pm
Saturday 21st September – 9.15am, 11.45am and 2.30pm
6 round – all moves in 50 minutes with 10 seconds per move added from move one

UNDER 8 (born 2011 or later)
Sunday 22nd September – 10.00am, 11.30am, 1.00pm, 2.30pm, 4.00pm and 5.30pm
6 rounds – all moves in 20 minutes with 10 seconds per move added from move one

Entrants to BOTH the U8 and U9 Championships before 20th July may deduct $10 from their total entry fee. Please note this means if you’ve entered BOTH events, not just one or the other …

MAJOR OPEN

Atkins Tournament – open to all players
Soanes Tournament – open to players under FIDE 1825, or if no FIDE rating, under ECF 150 / National 1825
Yates Tournament – open to players under ECF 120 / National 1600 (January 2019 list)

5 rounds – all moves in 90 minutes with 30 seconds per move added from move one
Please note – players may ask to play in a higher section if they so wish. Players may request a ½ point bye in any of first four rounds. Round One byes must be claimed on the entry form. Inform your section’s Arbiter of any bye to be taken in later rounds.

  Under 1750 Tournament  – Monday 23rd September – Friday 4th    October 2.30pm Open to players under FIDE 1750 or, if no FIDE rating, under ECF 140 / National 1750

Under 120 Tournament – Monday 23rd September – Friday 4th October 9.15am Open to players under ECF 120 / National 1600 (January 2019 list)

Under 100 Tournament– Monday 23rd September – Friday 4th October 2.30pm Open to players under ECF 100 / National 1450 (January 2019 list)

5 rounds – all moves in 90 minutes with 30 seconds per move added from move one

RAPIDPLAY

ONE SECTION, 9 rounds FIDE-rated – Saturday 5th October 1.00pm, 1.45pm, 2.30pm, 3.15pm, 4.00pm, 4.45pm, 5.30pm, 6.15pm and 7.00pm

August 2019 FIDE rapid play ratings will be used for this event

All moves in 10 minutes with 5 seconds per move added from move one

SYSTEM OF PLAY

The championship will be played under FIDE’s Laws of Chess and the Swiss system. Session : The rate of play will be 60 minute with an increment of 30 second per move from move number one (only in FIDE approved clock).

TIE BREAK

The following tie-break will be followed.
1. Direct encounter
2. Buchholz
3. Buchholz Cut
4. Sonneborn Berger
5. The greater number of wins

PRIZE DISTRIBUTION FUNCTION

Prize distribution function is compulsory for all players. The participants not attending the prize distribution function will not get the prize as well as certificate.
